We offer standardized solutions for small business at very competitive cost. We invite small businesses to contact us for a quote. What is e-Commerce?

e-Commerce consists in processing business transactions in an electronic manner. It is generally defined as conducting business on the Internet, although this definition is narrow. There are many different ways to implement e-Commerce features.

Who is e-Commerce for?

If you have a business, or if you want to build a business, e-Commerce is certainly for you, no matter what size your business is. Very large companies have usually the means and the internal or external resources to implement complex e-Commerce processes. However, e-Commerce is not reserved to large companies. Even the smallest ones can easily design and implement a web site today for a very low fee (please review our Web Design and Web Hosting solutions), and add transaction processing to their web site for a low cost as well. The most common application for small businesses is to web-enable their product catalog, and to implement a shopping cart. The shopping cart allow customers and web visitors to shop your products, and buy them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can pay by credit card, or by other means depending on how you conduct your business. The next level is to include features such as order tracking (your customers can view on the web the status of their orders), and inventory tracking (your inventory is automatically updated by the transactions processed from your web site), without forgetting reporting features. Towards the higher end of the possible features, you can implement Business Intelligence tools which will help you understand your customers and your markets, find how to enlarge your customer base, ultimately leading to a significantly increased revenue stream.

How does it work?

First you need a web site. The web site runs on a web server. Your customer comes to your web site using a piece of software called an Internet browser. They remotely connect to your web server and navigate through your catalog, add products to their shopping cart, and check out when they are ready. After providing identity and payment information, your web server contacts electronically your payment center to verify the payment information (as well as the identity of the buyer, most of the time). Both the customer and you receive notification that the payment has been accepted. You can then access the detail of the order which is forwarded to you by your web server, prepare the order, and then ship it. The only thing left is to contact your customer and announce them that their products have been shipped.

A similar scenario can be put in place for services, where of course, there is no order fulfillment. Once you are notified of payment from a customer, you just provide the service purchased.
